Abstract: | Examined the relation between Matching Familiar Figures Test (MFF) performance and Piaget's construct of perceptual activity in 48 3rd- and 4th-grade males. Type I and Type II illusions were used to assess the Ss' perceptual-attentional skills. While perceptual activity was found to relate to MFF errors for the entire sample, other findings indicate that perceptual skill alone did not determine MFF accuracy. It is hypothesized that solution of the MFF items may also depend on a higher order operation: the ability to coordinate available perceptual-attentional skills during visual search of the stimulus array.
