Sidewall modification of single-walled carbon nanotubes using photolysis of perfluoroazooctane

Abstract:Photolysis of perfluoroazooctane in the presence of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) led a sidewall modification of SWNTs to form perfluorooctyl functional groups. The introduction of the perfluoroalkyl substituent was confirmed by Raman, XPS, FT-IR, mass and UV-vis-NIR measurements. This method is useful for sidewall modification of SWNTs with perfluorooctyl moiety due to no formation of byproducts and no destruction of SWNTs electronic behavior by heavy modification.
