Optical solitons through an anharmonic vibrational mode

An optic field interacting with an infrared active vibrational mode with a cubic nonlinearity is considered. The slowly varying envelope of the electric field is shown to satisfy the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Various aspects of the model are discussed.
