Abstract: | This paper focuses on a method to maintain an acceptable level of performance of the communication networks serving advanced
manufacturing systems. This method is a part of performance management and aims to improve the network performance of handling
various types of message such as e-mails, file transfers, control signals, and so on. In order to achieve the goal, the performance
management adjusts protocol parameters such as timers and queue capacities, on line. The principles of fuzzy logic, genetic
algorithms, and neural networks have been combined in formulating the performance management rules and for finetuning the
manager. In orderto demonstrate the efficacy of this approach, a performance management procedure developed for the IEEE 802.4
protocol standard has been evaluated via discrete event simulation. |
