Abstract: | Specific features pertinent to the way in which field inspections of pipelines susceptible to erosion-corrosion wear are organized are discussed. The effect deposits of corrosion products have on the trustworthiness of field inspection results is analyzed. It is shown that field inspection measurements give the combined thickness of undamaged metal and deposits of solid corrosion products; this is why wall thickness values both larger and smaller than rated wall thickness may be recorded. We also discuss matters of how field inspections of pipeline wall thicknesses are organized, how the scopes and frequency of inspections are substantiated, and how computation codes are used. |
