Abstract:A hydroxyapatite(HA) coating was successfully prepared on NiTi alloy surface by cathodic electrodeposition from an electrolyte containing Ca2+ 0.042 mol/L,H 2 PO4? 0.025 mol/L,and citrate 2.5 × 10?4 mol/L. A nanoscale needle-like oxide layer was formed on the surface of NiTi alloy by thermo-alkaline pretreatment with a 5 mol/L NaOH solution. The coating deposited from the citrate-containing electrolyte is more compact,well-distributed and finer as compared with that deposited without citrate in electrolyte,indicating the significant inhibition effect of citrate on the growth of HA crystals. The immersion test in simulated body fluid proved that the as-prepared coating has good bioactivity to induce the formation of carbonated hydroxy-apatite under simulated physiological environment.
