Abstract: | In this work, multi-layered Halloysite polyelectrolyte nanocontainers, which will be used to store corrosion inhibitors to develop smart coating technology, were fabricated, and doped in a home-modified epoxy coating. The Halloysite nanocontainers were characterised, and their compatibility with the epoxy coating was tested in terms of the anti-corrosion performance for X65 pipeline steel. Results demonstrate that the fabricated Halloysite nanocontainers have a more uniform scale and better dispersion than the as-received Halloysite particles. The processing introduces new functional groups in the material, but does not change its intrinsic structure. The epoxy coating containing Halloysite nanocontainers possesses enhanced corrosion resistance. Moreover, with the increase in the content of the Halloysite nanocontainers in the coating, the corrosion resistance is further improved. The prepared Halloysite nanocontainers are highly compatible with the epoxy coating for corrosion resistance. |
