Abstract: | Steel development as a scientific process requires both metallurgical background and state‐of‐the‐art analysis and testing technology. In the future, we expect much shorter development periods owing to the increased use of computer simulation. Successful developments are the result of consistent team work, both in the steel companies and in the cooperation with automobile producers. Customer involvement at an early stage permits to speed up the development by simultaneous engineering. The success of a material in the market depends more and more on its comprehensive definition by relevant parameters. Scientific technical services form a part of marketing. Modern high‐strength steels are enjoying success and are finding ever more application in new cars. |
