Abstract:According to statistics of 13 large and medium-sized irrigated areas where divert the Yellow River wa ter in Shandong Province that sandy area of canal headworks occupies 56% of excavated area of the sand basin which is an outstanding problem. The sandition at headworks has generated harmful effects to the lo cal ecological environment, agricultural production and social and economic development. It needs to be controlled comprehensively. The controlling measures are mainly to economize on water, build sediment prevention facilities at headworks for reducing the amount of sediment diversion; increase the sediment dis charge capacity of canal system and reduce the burden of deposition of headworks; warp in flood season or improve the warped soil and sandy wasteland of headworks by using hydraulic or earthwork machines; de velop processing of various building materials by taking the sediment of headworks as raw material; and strengthen the management of sand basin and consolidate the managed achievements.
