Riverbank Filtration for Surface Water Treatment

As a natural filtration system, riverbank filtration is simple, inexpensive, and widely applied in Europe and North America. Research progress and application of riverbank filtration in different countries, as well as its advantages, was introduced. The mechanism to reduce or eliminate the contaminants, and the removal efficiency of nitrogen, waterborne pathogens, eyanobacteria and microcystins, artificial organic pollutants, etc. in this process were also illustrated. Finally, the perspective of the application of riverbank filtration was summarized.
