Abstract: | The advantages of the design features of the products family and the reference products is essential to product development in a rapidly changing and keenly competitive environment. In this paper, a product form design method based on shape grammar is developed to make the product form design phase more objective and scientific in order to meet customers needs better. This method extracts the form elements which can reflect the needs of the users group firstly from the family products and the reference products according to the morphological characteristics of the target product. Then the shape deduction and adaptive evolution of the product form are achieved according to the rules of the shape grammar. Furthermore, the key technologies are studied deeply, such as product research and morphological analysis, shape deduction, and designs generated. Finally, the product form design process of a kind of electric scooter is employed to demonstrate and test the method. |
