Abstract: | ![]() All utility customers can benefit from non-residential customers who adopt and operate distributed energy resources in a manner that produces both private and system benefits. But current rate designs do not encourage this, because they focus on a single interval of usage, not all intervals. This article proposes smart non-residential rate design principles that better align customer choice with system benefits and thus lower costs and induce efficient adoption and use of advanced technologies. |
