Cognitive Interpretation of Polysemy Network of an English Preposition in

Using the principled polysemy approach put forward by Tyler and Evans for the analysis of English spatial prepositions,this paper made a thorough analysis on the polysemy network of the preposition in with its primary sense and distinct sense.We maintain that the formation and extension of these senses is not arbitrary but based on a set of highly motivated principles to form the semantic network.So the formation and extension of senses is the outcome of human cognitive categorization and conceptualization.
