Sculpturic design of structures using finite elements

A new philosphy of optimal structural design called ‘sculpturic design’ is introduced in this paper. A companion methodology is presented through which an optimal design is achieved using a systematic procedure. To illustrate this concept and methodology several examples are treated, and by using the finite-element method, certain structures which may be termed ‘sculpturic structures’ are obtained.
