The study on synthesis of parachlorotoluene by selective chlorination of toluene in china and overseas was Summariged in this paper. The various chlorinating methods with chlorinating agent chlorine gas,organic chloro-containing compounds and inorganic chloride were introduced. The catalyst systems of lewis acid catalyst and sulfur-containing co-catalyst and zeolites catalyst systems were highlighted. The relevant methods were evaluated.
