Abstract:Full interpenetrating polymeric networks(full-IPN) hydrogels based on poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/ chitosan were prepared by radical-induced polymerization of(N-isopropylacrylamide) in the presence of chitosan using methylene bisacrylamide as the crosslinker.The low critical solution temperature(LCST) of PNIPAAm/CS hydrogels with full-IPN structure was evaluated utlizing differential scanning calorimeter.An increase of chitosan causes a decrease in the enthalpy of the phase transition as well as an increase in the transition temperature(LCST) from 33.28℃to 34.76℃.In addition,the swelling characteristics of hydrogel system were thoroughly investigated.The full-IPN hydrogels show a transition from the swollen to the collapsed state at temperature above 33℃,and swelling ratio increases with the decrease in pH,and an obvious change can be found at pH 4.0.
