| Abstract: | Large, regular and abundant trace fossil Zoophycos is found in shallowmarine limestone of the Lower Datang Stage (= Lower Viseah ) at Daxu,Guilin, Cuangxi. Horn coral lag deposits, shellbeds, other reworked fossils insitu and some erosion surfaces in the horizons probably show the influence ofstorm when the strata deposited. For lack of ripple and clear hummockycross-bedding, howerer, the most depth of the deposits should only be near thestorm wave base. According to the division of Wu Xiantao (1982), it maybelong in the tempestite type A. Although the range of Zoophycos distri-bution depth has been known to be larger than before, the idea that thetrace fossil mainly exits from the normal wave base to bathyal is acce-ptable, if we agree that ichnofacies in sea may partly overlap. |
