Abstract: | Outlines 4 common ethical problems (i.e., problem definition, overidentification, informed consent, and confidentiality) as they occur in juvenile justice. A rough heuristic is proposed as a method for analyzing ethical issues in applied juvenile justice research and practice. It is suggested that a professional is faced with deciding where he/she stands on the issues of treatment vs retribution and of needs vs rights when operating in the juvenile justice system.
