| Abstract: | Coal beds and shales bearing terrestrial organic matters (TOM) are the significantoil--source rocks in Chinese hinterland basins, and organic matters in this kind of source rockare derived predominantely from high plants. Their potentials as source rocks are often underestimated by conventional organic geochemical evaluation in the light of the discrepancy oftheir petrological and geochemical characteristics from marine and lacustrine sapropelic oilsource rocks. According to organic petrological studies, the features of coal and TOM oilsource rock, compositions of oil--prone macerals and submicromacerals as well as their evolution are discussed. Assessment principle of coal and terrestrial organic matter petroleumsource rocks have been given in the scales of maceral groups macerals submacerals and submicromacerals. |
