Transient temperature of local moving areas of sliding contact

Abstract:A procedure for determining the temperature field in concentrated sliding contacts is developed. Previous solutions for stationary heat sources are reviewed and the effects of motion of the hot spots in the intermittent contact of the asperities are discussed. The transient cooling after cessation of heating is examined. A quantitative assessment of sliding speed effects on the contact temperature is made.
