Eight Views of the Xiao-Xiang and Eight Views of Interiors

The Eight Views of the Xiao-xiang, a traditional theme in Chinese landscape painting, is widely spread in Japan. The development of the Eight Views of the Xiao-xiang in Japan was generally described, then detailed analyze was carried on Suzuki Harunobu＇ s works -- the Eight Views of Interiors （Zashiki hakkei） which is a set of paintings corresponding to each painting of the Eight views of xiao-xiang. Over all, the aim of this study is to in-depth reveal how Harunobu innovatively applied a common technique -Mitate in his paintings in the Edo period.
