| Abstract: | The paper reviews the contributions of William Watt, a scientist of UK Royal Aircraft Establish-ment at Farnborough, to the progress of PAN-based carbon fiber technology for UK and the world. The re-search and the tragedy result of CFRP blade"Hyfil"of Rolls-Royce plc are briefly introduced and the rea-son of why UK's technological development of PAN-based carbon fiber went rapidly from prosperity to de-cline is analyzed. |
