| Abstract: | 2-Methyl-3-pentanone was synthesized by using cheap propionaldehyde as the starting material.The process for the preparation of 2-methyl-3-pentanone comprised reacting propionaldehyde with the Grignard reagent-2-bromopropane and subsequent oxidating the hydrolyzed reaction product with 50% H2O2,resulting in an overall product yield of 73%. |
