Abstract: | ![]() The motivator-hygiene theory of work attitudes assumes 2 independent sets of variables (motivator and hygiene) important to employee job satisfaction and dissatisfaction. The applicability of this assumption to the job attitudes of 117 blue-collar workers was determined through factor analyses of a 40-item work attitude survey. The job attitudes of blue-collar workers could be separated into 2 relatively independent sets of variables, comparable to motivator or hygiene variables. However both sets of variables were found to be positively related to job satisfaction, contrary to predictions from the theory. (16 ref.)
