Abstract: | Mass transfer between n-butanol and water has been studied in cocurrent pipeline flow. Phase NTU's correlated with individual phase velocities, and also depended on the input ratio of the two phases and the contactor length. Mass transfer stage efficiencies varied from near zero to essentially 100%. End effects were large. Pressure drop data agreed with the correlation of Charles and Lilleleht. The pipeline contactor showed contactor effectiveness and energy requirements similar to those of other experimental liquid-liquid extraction devices. |
