| Abstract: | The composition of UO2±x has been determined in a narrow range on either side of the stoichiometric composition, as a function of the equilibrium oxygen pressure at a single temperature, 1950 K. Samples of UO2−x cooled rapidly from 1950 K to room temperature disproportionate to stoichiometric UO2 and U metal. The significance of these results to the commercial sintering of UO2 fuel pellets is discussed. |
