Stress induced cavitation in cobalt bonded tungsten carbide

Abstract:Tensile stress-strain curves of three grades of Co-bonded WC composite have been obtained near 1200° C. Extensive void formation is observed in specimens extended to failure. A qualitative model for deformation based on atomic migration of Co in the bonding Co phase is proposed to account for the observations.
