The Progress of Standardization of ASON

The explosive increase of global data service requires that Optical Transport Network (OTN) provide flexible network configuration and efficient network protection, so the emergence of Automatic Switched Optical Network (ASON) accords with this new development trend of optical network. ASON is a set of optical infrastructure with high flexibility and extensibility, which can directly provide service at optical layer and rapidly fulfil) the requirements of subscribers, so it can solve some network problems perfectly, such as scalability, manageability, subscriber bandwidth distribution and end -to-end network protection. This paper introduces the standardization status of ITU -T, IETF and OIF, and then it summarizes the enactment of ASON standard in China.
