As Winchester-based micros replace minicomputers in small and medium-sized businesses, the need for efficient data backup becomes crucial. Both floppy discs and removable Winchesters have drawbacks as backup media. Instead, as the article describes, streaming tape is a cost-effective and fast option. The characteristics of streaming tape systems and progress on standardizing protocols are discussed. |
