ATM and AAL layer issues concerning multimedia applications

This paper presents an overview of the facilities that should be provided by theAtm layer and the adaptation layer (Aal) in order to support multimedia communications. From the analysis of data flows generated by well known multimedia applications and the services that could be offered byAtm networks both in the public and the private domain, we propose solutions enabling the availability of such applications onAtm networks taking into account both economical andQos parameters.
