Abstract:Rare earth orthoferrites and garnets were both prepared by heat treating coprecipitated hydroxides of the rare earth ion and Fe3+. X-ray and electron diffraction as well as Mössbauer measurements indicate that the transition from amorphous solid solution to crystalline orthoferrites takes place between 600° and 700°C. Crystalline garnet forms when the amorphous mixture is heated above 700°C. The formation of the orthoferrites and garnet occurs directly without role=presentation style=font-size: 90%; display: inline-block; position: relative;>without prior formation of component oxides.
