Improved oxidation resistance of Ti with a thermal sprayed Ti3Al(O)–Al2O3 composite coating

Abstract:A Ti3Al(O)–Al2O3 in situ composite was explored as a coating system for Ti using thermal spray. Oxidation tests at 700–800 °C showed that this coating remarkably decreased the oxidation rate and increased the scale spallation resistance compared with Ti. The mechanisms for these improvements were then briefly discussed.
