Abstract: | ![]() Administered questionnaires to 2,080 United States Navy enlisted men grouped according to occupational specialties. A status congruency measure was developed and used to determine the degree to which an S was in step with peers within his occupational category relative to duty time, pay grade, age, and marital status. An individual's score on this measure was found to be significantly and uniquely predictive of his reported life stress and job satisfaction.
