Abstract: | Discusses the hypothesis of R. N??t?nen and P. T. Michie (see record 1980-29874-001) that selective auditory attention does not merely augment the N? component of the auditory evoked potential at 80–220 msec latency. Sequential effects, stimulus intensity, and the effect of information load are examined with regard to the hypothesis, and it is suggested that 2 distinct physiological processes are involved.
