Abstract:Fe-Mn-Al-C low-density steels have attracted considerable interest as low density and excellent combination of strength and ductility with the requirements of fuel consumption, environment sustainability and passenger safety. The current status of alloy design and microstructures, processing, strengthening mechanism, properties in Fe-Mn-Al-C low-density steels are reviewed. In this review, the development of deformation mechanisms of Fe-Mn-Al-C low-density steels, as well as tensile property, impact toughness and fatigue property are introduced and discussed. The existing problems and future challenges in Fe-Mn-Al-C low-density steels are pointed out to established as structural materials for automotive industries.
