| Abstract: | A method for the quantitative determination of the main carotenoids, such as lutein, zeaxanthin, apocarotenoic acid ethyl ester, bixin, canthaxanthin, citranaxanthin and paprika pigments in feeds and premixes for laying hens and broilers is described. The method has, compared to the known analytical procedures, several advantages: 1. Differentiation between lutein and zeaxanthin which have different pigmentation properties. 2. Reduction of distribution errors for added carotenoids by increasing sample weights. 3. Individual determinations of added carotenoids which have different pigmentation activities. |
