SECONDARY REFINING AND CONTINUOUS CASTING OF HEAVY RAIL STEEL

The necessity to apply vaccum degassing to heavy rail steelmaker is examined ,and overseas heavy rail manufacturers using vaccum degassing are introduced. The advantage of producing heavy rails from continuous cast blooms and the characteristic feature of the continuous cast process for rail steel is briefly reviewed. Finally, measures adopted world-wide to improve the quality of continuous cast blooms are investigated and major overseas manufacturers producing heavy rails from continuous cast blooms are given.
