Softswitch and Telecom Operation Innovation

This paper first analyzes the background of softswitch from the non_technical view. There is an analogy between the value-chain change of the computer industry in the 80's of last century and the current change of telecom industry. Softswitch is not just a simple communication technology. It will introduce the change from "vertical integration and close, proprietary" to "horizontal cooperation and open, standardization" in the telecom circles. It temporizes the market trend of telecom open, de_regulation and value_chain re_construction. Then this paper presents the softswitch technology and next generation network (NGN), finally indicates that softswitch will provide the telecom operators a new market opportunity and space with fast deployment of new value_added services, increase of core competition and differential market strategy.
