Abstract: | Two microfluidic concepts for a dynamic iris are presented. One is based on a double-spiral capillary channel lithographically defined in SU-8 photoresist and filled with two non-mixing fluids, one opaque and one transparent. The position of the meniscus between the liquids determines the grade of iris closure. The second approach uses an elastomer half-sphere pressed against a substrate more or less, thus squeezing away an opaque liquid and opening the iris to a specific extent. |
