Abstract:The signal-induced change of the refractive index in an erbiumdoped fiber amplifier (EDFA) causes a phase modulation imposed in a signal when passing the EDFA. In this paper,we apply our extended EDFA model in an optical communication system. The model includes this phase modulation, by including nonlinear dispersion in a EDFA,and spontaneous emission noise. The "one"with nonlinear dispersion is accelerated and reaches the receiver earlier than the "one" without nonlinear dispersion. However, the impulse shape does not change with nonlinear dispersion.
