Abstract:he water amount for sediment delivery in the lower reaches of the Yellow River isclosely related to the condition of water and sediment inflow from upper reaches,as well as theboundary conditions of the river bed. Water volume for sediment delivery is increased as the in-flow from upper decreasing in non--flood seasons,and water amount for sediment delivery is verylarge especially in every March which probably cause ice run,so the water inflow in non--mansoonseasons especially in March every year be fully used,the water volume for sediment delivery issmaller in flood seasons and changes along with inflow sediment content in different reaches. Themost effective sediment delivery flood peaks in mansoon seasons appear normally in August whenthe river bed have been regulated through siltation and erosion,which are with average flood peakdischarge of 2500m'/s and sediment content of 50 to 120kg/m3,and without flood over beach. Thewater amount for sediment delivery is changed along the river bed siltation and erosing situation,and the key reach for the water amount control is in the upper reaches of Gaochun. Under the current conditions,it is difficult to decrease the water amount for sediment delivery;4owever,somenecessary measures can be applied to save the water for delivering sediment,such as strengtheningthe realignment of the wandering river channels of upper Gaochun station and enhancing its sediment delivering capability,and reserviors used for necessary flow and sediment regulation underthe prerequisite of comprehensive consideration.
