Abstract:All kinds of reservoirs have been built in China. With the rapid development of industry, agriculture and tourism upstream, people pay much more attention to water quality of reservoirs. A river-type reservoir is narrow and long in shape and has many reservoir bends and confluences of tributaries. On the bests of Saint-Venant equations and differential equation for longitudinal diffusion and in consideration of the influence of confluences and bends, a onedimensional unsteady mathematical model for water quantity and quality prediction is established in this paper. The model consists of a hydrodynamic model and a water quality model. As an example, average hydraulic characteristics and water quality parameters are calculated for a reservoir with two confluences and four bends. The computed results are in agreement with field obervation date. The model can be applied to predict water quantity, water level and water quality of river-type reservoirs.
