Determination of oxygen-to-metal ratios in metal oxide nuclear fuels

Methods for the determination of O/M ratios in uranium and uranium-plutonium oxide nuclear fuels are reported based on an extensive literature survey. The salient features, as well as the merits and drawbacks of each method are critically reviewed. The need for a fast direct method, by which the simpler indirect methods may be checked, is met by the carbon-reduction method.
