Abstract:It is a new technology to sinter ceramic materials rapidly by means of the high temperature and high heat transfer rate of plasma. Alumina was sintered in a high frequency plasma at normal pressure, and the temperature distribution and corrseponding density curve of the samples in the high temperature wake was determined. The pore distribution and sintering activities of the blanks can be adjusted by mixing two powders, thus getting the samples sintered rapidly with a density reaching to 99.1% of the theorectical value.The experiment has shown that the density of the alumina ceramic sintered by normal pressure plasma depends on the raw material composition, the sample size and the sintering position of the samples.
