In view of serious sediment accumulation in Shuicaozi reservoir area or many difficulties brought by transfer of water and sand into and out of the reservoir, the paper presents some methods of silt clearance and reservoir reinstatement. For example, dredge boats cooperate with scour tunnels to sluice sand, heavy machines with automobiles to desilt silt basins, scour tunnels with spillway tunnels to sluice sand, and high-pressure water jets sluice sand. And it is proposed that comprehensive measures be taken to prevent water and soil loss, manage well reservoir water in valleys and avoid reservoirs being silted again.
