ELECTRIC POWER MARKET AND ELECTRIC POWER DISPATCH

The restructuring of electric power utilities in European and American countries going over from vertically integrated franchized agency systems to competitive power markets is briefly discussed. The competitive markets can be categorized into two levels: the whole sale competition in the high voltage transmission network and the retail competition in the end user network. The most important role for the success of the new system is played by the dispatcher, the independent system operator. He is not only responsible for the spot price of the spot market but also the necessary manipulation, for which some new power system technologies are used.
