Abstract:In this paper, a new integrated scheme for scheduling real-time trafficand cell loss control is proposed in high-speed ATM networks. Scheduling and losscontrol can be performed at different points in the ATM network, such as, at themultiplexers and switches. In our scheme, the arriving cells of a user call are as-sumed to have the same deadline , but the different types of cells belonging to onecall may have different priorities for loss control. A single buffer queue is used toreceive all arriving cells, but the import points for the arriving cells depend on theirdeadlines. The partial buffer sharing algorithm for cell loss control is accepted.The connection-oriented nature of ATM networks can be kept and no resequencingdevice is needed in this new scheme. The integrated scheme is modeled by stochas-tic Petri nets in this paper. This large model of the scheme is decomposed into nearindependent submodels to analyze the model performance.
