Survey on clustering algorithms in wireless sensor networks

The past few years have witnessed increased interest in the potential use of wireless sensor networks(WSNs) in applications such as disaster relief,combat field reconnaissance,resource protection,security surveillance and smart home.To improve scalability,nodes are often grouped into clusters.In this paper,background and effects of clustering algorithms are introduced.Next,factors influencing clustering,clustering objectives,characteristics and complexities of clustering algorithms are explained.Then,methods and performances of WSN clustering algorithms based on metrics such as convergence rate,cluster stability and energy awareness are surveyed
