Spalling and Preventive Measures of Cast Hot-Strip Roll

The roll consumption is one of the critically important technical and economic indicators for the continuous hot rolling mill.Reducing roll consumption can decrease production cost,and spalling is one of the failure forms of working roll.The main spalling failure forms of work roll were described,including saddle spalling,wear spalling,bonding layer spalling,and shaft shoulder spalling etc.The main mechanisms of every kind of spalling failure were analyzed.Avoiding stress concentration,overload and adhesion of steel,establishing reasonable grinding operation,reducing inclusions in roll material are main preventive measures.These provided the certain reference for use roll and management system.These solutions meet the requirement for eliminating spalling and extending roll service life.In the end,the development tend of roll has also been described.
