Abstract: | A kinetic oxidation test and an isothermal oxidation test of Fe-Cr-Mn alloys containing 0.50% to 2.69% C were carried out at 800 and 660℃ in atmosphere.A high temperature abrasive wear test of the alloys was also done in a self-made wear tester.A study of the morphology of the oxide film and the element distribution in the subsurface indicated that :(1) with increasing C content of the alloys the amount of eutectic carbide increased and the Mu content in the matrix participating in the oxidation process decreased, resulting in an increase of the oxidation resistance of the alloys:(2) The high temperature wear resistance of the alloys was closely related to the bulk hardness of the alloy and the amount of eutectic carbide. The increase in hardness of the alloys increased the high temperature wear resisance. However,it must be emphasized that the wear resistant effect of the carbides depends strongly on the support provided by the matrix. |
